I hope my blogs don't come over as too negative on the subject of my wife's family because actually the whole experience is quite life enriching.

Many thanks for your comment and I hope all is well with you, your wife, and the Korean in-laws.Smudgerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00449129060365290678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8154452806180550551.post-31381838992457666842012-10-10T00:03:08.005-07:002012-10-10T00:03:08.005-07:00Really interesting stuff here. My in-laws lifestyle is quite different from that of your in-laws, not many big family gatherings etc, but so much of your blog offers interesting parallels for me and my cross-cultural feelings and questions. Smiling and nodding can go a long way. I am sure as the missus is happy you will be fine. I said to my wife that they should not expect me to behave like a Korean and ply them with gifts and money, so they don't really expect it. To my in-laws credit they seem to mainly care about me taking good care of their daughter, which I do.

I get away with a lot because I am a foreigner but at the same time most of my rebellion is in my head and I try very hard to just grin and bear the times when they are demanding too much. It would be much worse if I was a Korean, I do not know how they cope with it!?Smudgerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00449129060365290678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8154452806180550551.post-45718350259743250762012-10-08T07:03:37.394-07:002012-10-08T07:03:37.394-07:00Have the in-laws caught on yet? You have referenced it in the past, but do you believe it's only a matter a time before you missing a gift or celebration turns into a spell when you all don't speak or visit?Joeynoreply@blogger.com
